Ushuaia is a city of nearly 100,000 inhabitants located in a natural environment of breathtaking beauty but extremely fragile and sensitive to human impact. We recognize the importance of giving back to this wonderful place everything it provides us, and we firmly believe that the idea of "leaving the place as we found it" is no longer enough. We are committed to compensating and giving back to the environment much more than we take, actively working to enhance the capacities that sustain life in this place we call home.
The central focus of sustainable tourism is to minimize damage to the environment in order to preserve it for the long-term viability of tourism activities. However, the concept of regenerative tourism goes further: it is not only about preservation, but also about regenerating and repairing the damage caused. Therefore, it emphasizes the destination, local communities, and the environment, aiming not only to preserve but also to enhance and revitalize each of these aspects.
From where we stand, we strive to follow the principles of this idea, which is why we choose to explore the most beautiful places in Tierra del Fuego in the afternoon, contributing to mitigating the impact caused by large concentrations of people at the same time.
We always carry the necessary tools to safely collect any trash we find along our path during the excursions. This brings us great satisfaction, and we want to share it, so we also provide equipment for interested travelers to actively collaborate if they wish.
Furthermore, we make an effort to use the least amount of plastic possible, and when we do use it, we ensure to take it to a processing plant for recycling.
We collect glass bottles and recycle them to be reused. You may find evidence of this in our shelters, where you can discover how we give them a renewed purpose. 😉
