The hike to Laguna Esmeralda does not present a major challenge for passengers who are exercise enthusiasts and have appropriate attire. However, depending on the weather conditions, the Tierra Mayor Valley, which is crossed on foot, can be very wet and hinder progress. Reaching Laguna Esmeralda, one of the most breathtaking landscapes in this region, more than compensates for the effort invested.
The trail covers a round trip of approximately 9 km in length. The terrain is typically wet in several sections, and in these areas, it can be slippery. In order to enjoy the hike, and especially to do so safely, it is important to have good physical condition and appropriate attire.
Footwear is the most important aspect, and it should be suitable for mountain trekking, along with a waterproof or water-resistant jacket. The ideal footwear should be waterproof, or at least provide sufficient protection for walking in areas that may be wet and/or muddy.
